About
"Hi, I’m Hels. I’m a Newcastle-based artist making country-leaning music with an indie edge, built around honest storytelling, big feelings and melodies that stay with you. I grew up loving artists who could break your heart while making you feel understood, and that’s really what I aim for in my own songs.
My sound sits somewhere between the emotional pull of First Aid Kit, the sharp songwriting of Kacey Musgraves and the bold, playful confidence of Chappell Roan. There’s a strong country core to what I do, but I love twisting it with raw guitars, fun hooks and modern energy.
Every song I write comes from real experiences - love, loss, friendships and generally navigating life. Even when the melodies are upbeat or playful, there’s always something real and raw underneath, and hearing someone tell me how much they could relate to a song genuinely means so much to me - come along to a show and say hi :)"
...Known for her ethereal vocals, Hels has captivated audiences and gained a grassroots following across the North East. Her debut EP ‘Just what I Do’, released January 2025, has earned support from BBC Introducing, leading to a live session on the North East show and an opening slot at the ‘BBC Introducing Live From The Glasshouse’ series in April 2025. She has been praised by local magazines as “startlingly magnificent” with “powerful, classic songwriting”.
2026 promises bigger and better things, with a UK tour planned for February–March, more festivals lined up for the summer, and plenty of new music still to come. Watch this space.
